A young marine technician arrives at a desolate island for a field survey, sharing a cabin with the withdrawn seal skinner Sawa Ryokichi. Over seven days, strange traces accumulate — a woman's sandals, a red hairpin, a ball of paper woven with long hair. There are only men on this island. Before dawn on the eighth day, the truth surfaces.
